Engineers can’t afford the luxury of replacing thinking with emotions – the laws of physics don’t tend to respect decisions made in the absence of thought. History is littered with examples of the unintended consequences of decisions made on the basis of an emotional response. Engineers, especially in high hazard industries, need to be able to think clearly.
